Marketing & Graphic Design Assistant (Contractor Role)

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Marketing & Graphic Design Assistant is a temporary, part-time contractor role within the SACNAS Development and Communications Department. This role focuses on providing project-based graphic design and digital marketing services to support year-round events, including SACNAS' largest event, the NDiSTEM Conference. 

The contractor will collaborate with the Manager, Marketing & Communications, to define project goals and timelines. This position can be performed remotely and may have the potential to transition to a permanent staff role. Contractors must have their own equipment and tools and are responsible for managing their own time and work processes to meet the agreed-upon deliverables. 

Rate Range: $23.07–$24.03/hour DOE 

Hours: Up to 25 hours per week 


SCOPE OF WORK 

Graphic Design Deliverables: 

  • Design digital and print materials, including logos, digital ads, flyers, brochures, posters, conference merchandise, and other assets. 
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva to create high-quality visual content. 
  • Perform photo manipulation and editing to enhance images for marketing purposes. 
  • Design marketing collateral for email campaigns and social media graphics.
  • Provide short-form video content edits for social and promotional use. 
  • Ensure all materials adhere to SACNAS brand guidelines and maintain a consistent visual identity. 

Website & Digital Content 

  • Support the coordination of website updates and finalized content. 
  • Maintain visually appealing and accurate digital assets in alignment with SACNAS branding. 
  • Assist in drafting and optimizing digital content for a variety of platforms (website, email, etc.). 

Social Media Support (as needed) 

  • Create quick-turnaround social media graphics using Canva. 
  • Support SACNAS events by capturing content (photos/videos) as needed. 
  • Assist with website and external communications during conference timeframes. 
  • Support the scheduling of social posts. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with SACNAS staff to develop creative assets that support fundraising, member engagement, and outreach goals. 
  • Participate in creative project check-ins (remote, as scheduled) to ensure alignment with overall deliverables and branding. 
  • Stay informed on graphic design trends and offer creative suggestions to enhance SACNAS communications. 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS 

Minimum Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree with 1–3 years of work experience in graphic design, communications, or a related field. 
  • Prior experience with outreach and design for underrepresented communities in STEM is a plus. 

Critical Skills and Tools 

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva. 
  • Experience with content updates using platforms such as HubSpot or WordPress. 
  • Video editing tools like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. 
  • Familiarity with social platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube). 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple creative projects independently. 

Contractor Expectations 

  • Must have own equipment. 
  • Must be able to manage project timelines and deliverables independently. 
  • Work schedule is flexible; some evening or weekend availability may be required during event periods. 
  • Occasional domestic travel may be requested (reimbursable with prior approval).
